Integrative capstone in Biological Sciences (BIOL 410, 3 credits, asynchronous online)
In this course, students learn concepts of interdisciplinary integration across the sciences, arts, humanities, and social sciences. They then complete a capstone project that integrates the biological sciences with another discipline, most commonly that chosen as their minor. This meets the criteria for the B.A. in Biological Sciences.
Microbiology (BIOL 342, 4 credits with lab)
Microbiology is an option for fulfilling the core physiology requirement for Biological Sciences majors at UAF. The objectives of the course are to give students a strong foundation in microbiology, skills in microbiological lab techniques, to provide an opportunity to conduct original research by isolating, identifying and characterizing a bacterium, and to develop scientific literature research, writing, and oral presentation skills. Students also create original microbiology-themed art projects.
